Where to Eat in Rotorua
You don’t have to walk far to visit one of Rotorua’s most famous buffet – Chapman’s Restaurant. Located in the lobby of the hotel, Chapman’s offers a large array of fresh seafood, contemporary international dishes, a daily roast with all the trimmings and a dessert station that will have you coming back for more. What’s more – kids 12 and under eat free!
Located on Rotorua’s well known ‘Eat Street’, Leonardo’s is a small family-run restaurant serving up delicious Italian cuisine. Using fresh local ingredients, the menu is offers a select range of dishes which change regularly. The intimate interior and friendly, attentive service means this place gets busy so bookings are recommended.
Sabroso serves rustic and traditional dishes from the Caribbean as well as Central and South America. Tucked away in downtown Rotorua, it is the perfect location for a date night, or if with the family we recommend making an early booking.
Enjoy mouthwatering Indian dishes at Indian Star. The menu offers a taste of some of the best and most characteristic Indian dishes including rich and lavish Pulao and Biryani rice dishes, savoury North Indian Kormas, kebabs and tandoori dishes, all complimented with handmade breads. Southern India, known for it’s vegetarian and seafood cuisine, inspires a large range of delicious dishes using classic ingredients such as chilli, coconut oil and coconut milk.
Also located on ‘Eat Street’, the vibe at Atticus Finch is lively and fun. The menu is designed to share using a combination of carefully selected ingredients that allow a series of flavours to be shared and enjoyed together. The food is fresh, innovative, flavoursome and made from scratch.
Rotorua Cafes and Quick Bites
For something quick and easy you can’t go past Ciabatta Cafe and Bakery. From the freshly baked breads to the kiwi favourites like a mince and cheese pie, this spot has quickly become a local favourite. You can also find the longest hotdog in the world at Ciabatta – it’s called the Long Dog! With 430mm in length it makes quite the lunch, especially if you have it loaded with sour cream and cheese and fire it up for the ‘melt down’ experience.
Lime Cafeteria does all the basics really well, and is located on a great corner for people watching. Their cool interior is fresh, modern and light, and the menu has something for all ages. Lime is open for brunch and lunch and offers some peace and quiet from the main hustle and bustle of the town.
Waitomo Glowworm Caves
Discover the incredible wonder that is glowworms at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. We recommend taking the famous boat ride where you meander underground along the Waitomo River and gaze in silence up at the Glowworm Grotto.
Alternately for adrenaline junkies, you can abseil, weave, jump, climb, and float through a glowworm-studded subterranean wonderland with the Legendary Black Water Rafting Co.
The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are approximately two hours drive from Holiday Inn Rotorua.
If you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, then visiting the Hobbiton movie set is a must. Stop by ‘Bag End’, where Frodo and Bilbo’s adventures began and crouch under the small doorways to explore the hobbit holes. You can also visit the Dragon Inn, the mill and the Party Tree, plus listen to the tale of how Hobbiton was created.

Mount Maunganui, Tauranga
Affectionately nicknamed ‘The Mount’ by New Zealanders, Mount Maunganui is a relaxed beach town located at the southern end of Tauranga Harbour. Loved by locals for it’s incredible surf beach, The Mount has a distinctive 230m peak which is fun to climb and offers incredible views. In winter The Mount offers a great day trip with it’s friendly township, boutique shops and great cafe spots.
